"HI guys well got my detector and can't wait . I read something I think it was here about metal detectors in the metro parks Authority well I have been trying to get an answer on metal detecting in the parks I live near stony creek so I went and check there and they told me I could do it there now but not between Memorial day and Labor Day Then I called Metro Beach and they said I could do it there anytime but not on the beach so I called the main office they said to check with the park you want to do it in. so is that the rule or is there some set rule for the metro parks like the state parks have that is easy to understand. anybody got the answer.
Thanks,
Inquirer"
Answer from Chuck W.: "In addition to the standard Metro Parks Pass, one has to go to the park office and get a metal detecting permit, which is good for the year. The permits are free, but are only good at that specific park and sometimes one or more other park. The restrictions are spelled out on the permit.
Each park has unique metal detecting rules.

Answer from Dennis R.: "The Metro park Authority, Stoney Creek, Kennington, and Metro Beach are different from State Parks, and Parks that are run by the County or citys.
Metro Beach has no permits but Stoney Creek and Kennington does. It pays to check as the patrol doesn't seem to be up on the latest rules. No detecting is permitted between memorial day and labor day.
I know the Oakland County Parks has a permit system because I set it up. It's no cost, just so the park employees don't shoot you for digging in new sod. The managers like to tell you not to leave any holes or where there is new grass. They love it when you turn in to them a zip lock bag of junk you picked up. They will ask you if you found anything, they're just curious as you would be if someone was dectiing on your land. You may get the permit at the parks office if they don't have one at the entrance booth. There is no fee and they might just say to go ahead. Unlike State Parks, you may hunt anywhere on land you want except maybe if they have new grass growing. In the county parks, you may not metal detect in the water. The reason is there is fabric under the sand and they don't want it torn. When we clean the swim area, we use a french fry basket type."
